The Fiat Group has appointed Revive as approved smart repairer for its Fiat and Alfa Romeo dealership network.
The contract will allow dealerships to offer smart repairs to Fiat and Alfa Romeo customers, adding a new service to the dealership and a new income stream.
“We are looking to work in partnership with the dealerships and add significant value to their existing services,” explained managing director of Revive Mark Llewellyn.
“If an Alfa Romeo driver or Fiat customer scrape or scuff their car they know that they will be able to return to their dealership and get the work done under the professional standards they are used to.”
Typical work carried out by Revive technicians will include repairing bumper scuffs, alloy wheels and other small scratches on the vehicle.
Kwik-Fit Trial Smart Repairs.
"Find your local smart repair company, The smart repairs will be menu priced and offer work for scuffed alloys, scratched, dented and chipped paintwork, bumper scuffs, interior trim and upholstery repair. "
Kwik-Fit Fleet has started trialling smart repairs for fleet and retail customers at six locations across the UK.
The fast-fit company started trials four months ago and is aiming to roll out the scheme nationally after gathering feedback from its centres in Edinburgh, Birmingham, St Helens, Telford and Slough with a mobile service available in London.
The smart repairs will be menu priced and offer work for scuffed alloys, scratched, dented and chipped paintwork, bumper scuffs, interior trim and upholstery repair.
Mike Wise, head of Kwik-Fit Fleet, believes the company can undercut the pricing of traditional bodyshops because it’s an incremental sale, so something that customers might not have been coming in for already.
Wise said: “We can afford to do it at a low price because those customers that are coming in for an MoT or service are already there and we can upsell on that business, we’re not just relying on the smart repairs.
“It’s been going well so far but it’s very early days.”
The trial will be reviewed at the end of the year and Wise expects 500 out of the 662 UK Kwik-Fit sites to offer smart repairs as those sites have the extra space due to MoT and servicing capabilities.
Smart repair pricing starts at £45 and there will be multi-repair discounts available. Customers can arrange for repairs by appointment or on a drop-in basis.

Ashford International announces new management structure and expansion programme.
Ashford International, leading manufacturer and distributor of Smart Repair products and systems has seen a significant increase in turnover in the last 12 months. As the company continues to expand its UK and International businesses it has further strengthened its management team with several key appointments. Glenn Parker is appointed Business Development Manager. With previous experience in Blue Chip telecoms and new business development Glenn commented. “This is great time to be joining such a forward thinking company with so much potential and which is growing so fast. The Smart Repair category is now successfully delivering added value and improved customer satisfaction to vehicle manufacturers, dealers and bodyshops and Ashford International is perfectly positioned to continue to drive further expansion”. John Highfield, Managing Director added “We all look forward to a very promising future - Glenn has extensive sales, marketing and telesales experience and is an important addition to the team. He will work on a growing number of clients who are investing in in-house Smart Repairs programmes. The market is now focused on increasing service and bodyshop hours sold and reducing sub-contract activity ” The appointment comes after the business relocated to larger premises in the Weybridge area. The offices include sales management, administration and distribution facilities.
Recently Carl Lee joined as Northern Area Sales Manager and Alun Williams is promoted to Group Training Manager with responsibility for the UK and Europe.
After several years of market education and some degree of reluctance on the part of traditional vehicle repairers Smart Repairs (or Small Area Repair Techniques) are now moving up the UK and European Aftermarket agendas.
It has not always been easy to communicate the benefits of Smart Repair products and processes to organisations who have a vested interest in maintaining the cost of accident repairs. Now vehicle manufacturers, dealer groups, insurers, de-fleet organisations, auction houses and bodyshops are seeing the real cost, time and revenue benefits these products can deliver. This has combined with continuing pressure on financial returns in the retail, service and aftermarket sectors and a need for improved productivity and profitability. The company already has several key manufacturer agreements and has seen significant growth across a number of sectors in the UK Automotive industry and overseas in new International markets which include Germany, Holland, Greece, UAE, South Africa and Russia. These are exciting times and this represents a further major investment which allows us to capitalise on the opportunities open to us. ”

An initiative to set a series of standards for smart repairers aims to restore the industry’s reputation by putting it on a more professional footing.
Smart repairer Revive has been amongst those working with The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) to develop core competencies.
“There is a lack of trust and confidence in smart repairers because of question marks over the level of quality offered by some operators,” explained Mark Llewellyn, managing director of Revive.
“It is one of the key reasons we got involved with the IMI to work on an accreditation scheme that would be valued and accepted by the industry and by the insurance companies.”
Llewellyn has spent the past 18 months working with the IMI and told Fleet News that he hoped an accreditation standard, recognised by the insurance industry, could be introduced early next year.
In addition, he said training courses based on bodyshop repair standards for both paint repairs and dents, with two skill levels of technician and advanced, should be ready for the start of the next academic year.
Revive, which has 85 smart repair vans and 59 franchises across the country, intends to put its own repairers through the scheme and is considering becoming an approved accreditation centre once the scheme is introduced.
The majority of its business (65%) is dealer based, with 25-30% coming from fleet contracts and 5-10% from private motorists.
However, Llewellyn hopes his focus on meeting customer expectations will bring more business across the board.
“There are a number of big customers out there and I want to make them aware that smart repairs can be done professionally,” said Llewellyn. “This initiative and the fact that we are service and standards driven will help change people’s perceptions.”
